Production Apprentice

Schedule: 5:30am – 3:30pm Monday – Thursday
Wage Range: $21.00 - $23.23/hr DOE

Summary

Mold, assemble, QC and ship parts produced with thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) materials.

Essential Duties

• Mold subcomponent parts and assemble final products to meet shipment dates.
• Prepare melt pots with proper material recipes as determined by SOP.
• Accurate weighing and mixing of materials and pigmenting to desired color.
• Prepare molds for daily production to include setting up mandrels per part specification, cleaning as necessary and loading into over for proper mold temperature.
• Trim molded parts; remove bubbles with torch and /or soldering iron.
• Sequence subcomponent parts for proper co-molding/assembly steps.
• Mix simulated blood to recipe.
• Assembly may require plumbing tubing and fittings.
• Fill mandrel cavities using polyurethane material.
• QC subcomponent and final assembly parts using ultrasound machine where necessary.
• Date stamp product.
• Prepare product for shipping.
• Use computers to access and input information.
• Take product to shipping department.
• Stock supplies as needed.
• Count parts accurately and document as required.
• Move product as required for each operation with proper documentation.
• Cross train and work in all molding areas.
• Meet established productivity levels, quality standards and deadlines.
• Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
• Follow appropriate safety precautions.
• Use calculator and scale to ratio and weigh out material.
• Maintain orderly and clean work station
• Participate in continuous improvement effort.
• Assist others as directed by Production Supervisor.
• Assist Production Supervisor as directed.
• Perform other duties as required.

Job Requirements

• Ability to grasp, open, close, and move molds using hands and wrists,
• ability to lift, hold and move or carry product and bins (lift up to 30 lbs. regularly and occasionally lift up to 75 lbs.),
• ability to stand for entire shift, excluding breaks and lunch,
• ability to recognize and match different colors of resins and materials,
• ability to use equipment such as hand grinder, scissors, knives, hammers, blenders, dispensing machines, air presses, production ovens, pressure pots, torches, soldering irons,
• ability to use thermoset and thermoplastic resins and additives,
• ability to handle hot molds and product, up to 350 degrees (using proper PPE),
• ability to use scale,
• ability to use basic math skills and a calculator,
• ability to use Metric and English measurement systems with a ruler, tape measure or calipers,
• ability to cross train and rotate to all molding areas,
• ability to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls,
• ability to push, pull, pry, bend, squat and reach,
• ability to attend to detail,
• ability to see close up, peripherally, and have depth perception,
• ability to meet and maintain productivity levels,
• ability to meet deadlines,
• ability to meet quality standards,
• ability to follow verbal, video and written procedures and instructions,
• ability to perform repetitive routine production procedures,
• ability to perform all job duties accurately,
• ability to maintain an organized, clean work area,
• ability to understand and use different types of basic computers and touch screens,
