Description

The Ultrasound Internal Jugular and Carotid Cannulation Module, Clear Tone (500-301-30) is a central line training neck module used to place hemodialysis (HD) catheters, central venous catheters (CVC), and ECMO catheters via the Seldinger technique, a wire-guided approach performed under ultrasound, sized to the anatomy of a late adolescent or small adult. Part of the RediStik® line of cannulation models, its clear construction lets users see the internal jugular vein and carotid artery directly, making it ideal for instructor-led demonstration and introductory ultrasound-guided access training. The jugular vein accepts cannulas up to 24 French and the carotid artery up to 16 French; without need for dilation or incision. Vessels are rated for 5 to 10 cannulations at maximum size depending on technique, with the surrounding tissue good for 20 or more uses; both vessels are easily replaced once worn.

This module doubles as a standalone trainer for vessel location, needle insertion, HD catheterization, and short catheter access, or it can be connected to other modules for full suite ECMO training; a quick-turn connector lets it lock directly onto the Ultrasound Right Heart Chamber and Valve Visualization Module (500-201-30/32) or the Clear Heart Visualization Module (501-301), supporting single- or dual-site VA ECMO configurations and giving users the choice between ultrasound-guided or purely visual training tracks. The model can be primed with an included 1,000 mL bag of blood solution and a height adjustable IV tower, so instructors can control flashback and back pressure at the moment of venipuncture.

Once primed, users can perform the full Seldinger technique from start to finish: track a needle tip under ultrasound down to the jugular vein, puncture and confirm flashback, thread a guidewire through right atrium and into the IVC while avoiding common snags such as the tricuspid valve or simulated hepatic veins, dilate, and advance an HD, CVC, or ECMO catheter over the wire to confirm proper placement and demonstrate flow on an active circuit. Sutures can also be placed after catheter removal for closure practice, and included soap can be used as a lubricant for catheters with a rougher surface.

Procedures This Module Supports:

  • Hemodialysis (HD) catheter placement via the Seldinger technique
  • Central venous catheter (CVC) placement via the Seldinger technique
  • Ultrasound guided needle access
  • Post-removal suturing practice
  • Dilation of the internal jugular vein and carotid artery with 500-201 or 501-301
  • ECMO catheter/cannula placement via the Seldinger technique
  • Guidewire navigation with either of the above and 500-702 (COMING SOON)
  • Dual-site ECMO VA/VV cannulation

Key Features:

  • Clear construction for direct visualization of the internal jugular vein and carotid artery
  • Anatomy sized to a late adolescent or small adult
  • Supports the Seldinger technique (wire-guided, ultrasound-guided) for HD, CVC, and ECMO catheter placement
  • Jugular vein accepts cannulas up to 24 French maximum; carotid artery accepts cannulas up to 16 French maximum
  • Vessels rated for 5 to 10 cannulations depending on device size and technique; tissue rated for 20+ uses
  • Vessels are independently replaceable (see the Ultrasound Internal Jugular Vessel Replacement, 599-50-3, and the Ultrasound Carotid Vessel Replacement, 599-50-4)
  • Locks onto the Ultrasound Right Heart Chamber and Valve Visualization Module (500-201-30/32) or the Clear Heart Visualization Module (501-301) for single- or dual-site ECMO simulation
  • Manifolds allow priming with a 1,000 mL blood solution bag and height-adjustable IV tower
  • Supports guidewire navigation, catheter placement, and post-removal suturing practice
  • Can be used standalone for HD catheterization or under ultrasound guidance
  • Includes soap for use as a catheter lubricant
  • Self-healing Resonance™ tissue supports repeated cannulation when devices are removed promptly after each session

Care, Handling, Usage, and Storage Guidelines for Resonance™ Material

Resonance™ material is designed for durability and repeated training use when handled, used, stored, and maintained according to recommended guidelines. To help preserve product performance and maintain warranty coverage, follow the care, handling, usage, and storage instructions below.

Care and Handling

Handle Resonance™ material with care during setup, training, cleaning, and storage. Avoid placing unnecessary stress, weight, or pressure on the material, as this may deform or damage the product. Do not leave the material in contact with paper or other surfaces that may transfer ink, dye, or residue.

After use, clean the material according to the product’s recommended care instructions. Resonance™ material must be stored clean and dry when not in use.

Usage Guidelines

Use Resonance™ material only as intended and according to the instructions provided for the specific product. When needle access is required, use only the recommended needle sizes listed in each product’s description. Use of non-approved needle sizes may damage the material and reduce product performance.

Where lubrication is recommended, apply the appropriate lubrication before use. Using the material without recommended lubrication may result in unnecessary wear or damage.

Do not leave needles, devices, or other instruments in place for extended periods unless specifically instructed, as prolonged contact may affect material performance or cause damage.

Storage Guidelines

Store Resonance™ material clean and dry when not in use. Do not store the material while wet, soiled, compressed, or under any weight. Proper storage helps maintain the shape, function, and longevity of the product.

Avoid storage conditions that may expose the material to unnecessary pressure, contamination, moisture, direct sunlight, or contact with materials that could stain or damage the surface.

Warranty Coverage

Damage resulting from use, storage, or care outside of these recommendations is not covered under warranty. This includes, but is not limited to, use with non-approved needle sizes, leaving the material in contact with paper, storing the material under any weight, storing the material while wet or soiled, leaving devices in place for extended periods, or using the material without recommended lubrication where applicable.

Failure to follow care, handling, storage, and usage instructions may reduce product performance and void warranty coverage.
