Description

The Ultrasound Neonatal Internal Jugular and Carotid Cannulation Trainer, Clear Tone (500-303-30) is a neonatal central line training module used to place collum based hemodialysis (HD) catheters, central venous catheters (CVC), and ECMO catheters in neonatal patients via the Seldinger technique, a wire-guided approach performed under ultrasound. Part of the RediStik® line of cannulation models, its clear construction lets users see the internal jugular vein (the larger of the two provided vessels) and carotid artery (the smaller vessel) directly, making it ideal for instructor-led demonstration and introductory ultrasound-guided access training. The jugular vein accepts cannulas up to 10 French maximum and the carotid artery up to 8 French maximum; vessels are rated for at least 5 cannulations at maximum device size, and the tissue has been validated for 20 cannulations.

Vessels install onto the model's base assembly by sliding each one over a barbed connector; and then using the provided forceps and lubricating soap to pull them through the tissue. The same technique is used to install the Ultrasound Neonatal Internal Jugular Vessel Replacement (599-50-1) and Ultrasound Neonatal Carotid Vessel Replacement (599-50-2) when it's time to refresh the module. The trainer's base assembly includes a flat plate with a removeable stand and IV tower, as well as a neonatal heart component for a complete, air-primeable ECMO trainer. Stopcocks and a 1,000 mL blood solution bag let users fully prime both vessels and the heart chambers before scanning, which is essential for clear ultrasound imaging free of air artifact.

Once primed, users can perform the full Seldinger technique from start to finish: scan for the jugular vein under ultrasound, puncture and confirm flashback, thread a guidewire down through the vessel and into the heart, dilate, and advance an HD, CVC, or ECMO catheter over the wire to complete a full cannulation. Minimal needle tracks may appear with repeated use, but the self-healing Resonance™ tissue shows little to no leaking even at the same access site after many sticks. After each session, the circuit drains back into the IV bag through the stopcocks, and the vessels and connecting tubing should be flushed with water and fully dried before storage to prevent moisture buildup.

Procedures This Kit Supports:

  • Neonatal hemodialysis (HD) catheter placement via the Seldinger technique
  • Neonatal central venous catheter (CVC) placement via the Seldinger technique
  • Neonatal ECMO collum catheter/cannula placement via the Seldinger technique
  • Wire-guided, ultrasound-guided needle puncture, guidewire navigation, and dilation of the internal jugular vein and carotid artery
  • Single- or dual-site VA neck neonatal ECMO cannulation

Key Features:

  • Clear construction for direct visualization of neonatal internal jugular vein and carotid artery
  • Neonatal-scale anatomy for realistic small-vessel cannulation practice
  • Supports the Seldinger technique (wire-guided, ultrasound-guided) for neonatal HD, CVC, and ECMO catheter placement
  • Jugular vein (larger vessel) accepts cannulas up to 10 French maximum; carotid artery (smaller vessel) accepts cannulas up to 8 French maximum
  • Vessels rated for at least 5 cannulations at maximum cannula size; unit validated for 15 to 20 solid cannulations, with tissue rated for 20+ uses overall
  • Self-healing Resonance™ tissue shows little to no leaking with proper care
  • Connects to a clear neonatal heart component via a threaded base assembly for a complete, air-primeable ECMO trainer
  • Base assembly includes flat plate, removeable legs, and a IV tower for priming
  • Vessels are independently replaceable using forceps and lubricant (Ultrasound Neonatal Internal Jugular Vessel Replacement, 599-50-1; Ultrasound Neonatal Carotid Vessel Replacement, 599-50-2); tissue replaceable with the Ultrasound Neonatal Internal Jugular and Carotid Cannulation Replacement, Clear Tone (525-303-30)
  • Can be used standalone or under ultrasound guidance
  • Rinse under water and dry fully before storage to keep the system clean between uses

Care, Handling, Usage, and Storage Guidelines for Resonance™ Material

Resonance™ material is designed for durability and repeated training use when handled, used, stored, and maintained according to recommended guidelines. To help preserve product performance and maintain warranty coverage, follow the care, handling, usage, and storage instructions below.

Care and Handling

Handle Resonance™ material with care during setup, training, cleaning, and storage. Avoid placing unnecessary stress, weight, or pressure on the material, as this may deform or damage the product. Do not leave the material in contact with paper or other surfaces that may transfer ink, dye, or residue.

After use, clean the material according to the product’s recommended care instructions. Resonance™ material must be stored clean and dry when not in use.

Usage Guidelines

Use Resonance™ material only as intended and according to the instructions provided for the specific product. When needle access is required, use only the recommended needle sizes listed in each product’s description. Use of non-approved needle sizes may damage the material and reduce product performance.

Where lubrication is recommended, apply the appropriate lubrication before use. Using the material without recommended lubrication may result in unnecessary wear or damage.

Do not leave needles, devices, or other instruments in place for extended periods unless specifically instructed, as prolonged contact may affect material performance or cause damage.

Storage Guidelines

Store Resonance™ material clean and dry when not in use. Do not store the material while wet, soiled, compressed, or under any weight. Proper storage helps maintain the shape, function, and longevity of the product.

Avoid storage conditions that may expose the material to unnecessary pressure, contamination, moisture, direct sunlight, or contact with materials that could stain or damage the surface.

Warranty Coverage

Damage resulting from use, storage, or care outside of these recommendations is not covered under warranty. This includes, but is not limited to, use with non-approved needle sizes, leaving the material in contact with paper, storing the material under any weight, storing the material while wet or soiled, leaving devices in place for extended periods, or using the material without recommended lubrication where applicable.

Failure to follow care, handling, storage, and usage instructions may reduce product performance and void warranty coverage.
