Ultrasound Neonatal Internal Jugular and Carotid Cannulation Trainer, Medium Tone

The Ultrasound Neonatal Internal Jugular and Carotid Cannulation Module, Medium Tone (500-303-32) is a neonatal central line training module used to place hemodialysis (HD) catheters, central venous catheters (CVC), and ECMO catheters in neonatal patients via the Seldinger technique, a wire-guided approach performed under ultrasound. Part of the RediStik^® line of cannulation models, its opaque, flesh-toned construction obscures the internal jugular vein (the larger of the two provided vessels) and carotid artery (the smaller vessel), requiring users to rely on ultrasound guidance to locate and access each vessel in a neonatal patient. The jugular vein accepts cannulas up to 10 French maximum and the carotid artery up to 8 French maximum; vessels are rated for at least 5 cannulations at maximum size, and the unit has been validated for 15 to 20 solid cannulations overall, with the surrounding tissue good for 20 or more uses.

Vessels install onto the model's base assembly using the provided forceps and baby soap as a lubricant, sliding each one over a barbed connector; the same technique is used to install the Ultrasound Neonatal Internal Jugular Vessel Replacement (599-50-1) and Ultrasound Neonatal Carotid Vessel Replacement (599-50-2) when it's time to refresh the module. The kit's base assembly includes a removable tabletop mount, height-adjustable legs, and a three-prong IV tower, and the neck connects to a clear neonatal heart component via a threaded thumb screw for a complete, air-primeable ECMO circuit. Stopcocks and a 1,000 mL blood solution bag let users fully prime both vessels and the heart chambers before scanning, which is essential for clear ultrasound imaging free of air artifact.

Once primed, users can perform the full Seldinger technique from start to finish: scan for the jugular vein under ultrasound, puncture and confirm flashback, thread a guidewire down through the vessel and toward the heart, dilate, and advance an HD, CVC, or ECMO catheter over the wire to complete a full cannulation connected to an active ECMO circuit. Needle tracks may appear with repeated use, but the self-healing Resonance™ tissue shows little to no leaking even at the same access site after many sticks. After each session, the circuit drains back into the IV bag through the stopcocks, and the vessels and connecting tubing should be flushed under water and fully dried before storage to prevent moisture buildup in the closed system.
